Details

It’s Teddy and Toddler Time at the National Space Centre, as we host a day dedicated to our very special cuddly friends and supporting the early educational development of our youngest visitors.

The Centre is not open to groups or schools on this day, so small children are able to toddle, explore and engage with the exhibition freely.

Our Education team host additional activities, craft sessions and story time sessions throughout the day.

Activities include:

Bear Awards
Bring teddy along for some special visitor voted certificates. Do you have the most hugged bear, or the brightest bear? Help them win a certificate and meet some new furry friends.

Storytime
Join our commanders in the sensory story area for a selection teddy bear stories.

Meet Astronaut George
Time to grab the ultimate memento of your visit, a photo with our very own Astronaut George! Come along and meet George, make sure you pack your camera.

Footprint/Handprint Teddy
Help your little one create a very special footprint or handprint memento.

Paper Plate Polar Bear
Design your very own paper plate polar bear to take home, with lots of tissue paper to be super cuddly!

Sing-a-long-a-Teddy
Head to LIVE Space for some well-known songs to sing, with a very special twist. Bubbles, lights, sound and participation all create an out of this world sensory experience for little ones to enjoy.

Astronaut George Trail
Astronaut George is travelling around our Solar System looking for samples that he can bring home, but he has run out of magic words to get his rocket to work… Can you help Astronaut George get home safely?

Tinytarium
A tiny planetarium has been created, where Astronaut George can tell young visitors all about the planets in our Solar System.

Dressing Up Trail
Time to become a scientist, an astronaut, or even an alien!

Buggy Park
To keep the galleries clear and to allow you to enjoy all the spaces, please drop off your buggy upon arrival in the Shuttle Suites. PLEASE NOTE – this space is not supervised.

FAQs

What age is Small Space Suitable for?
This is a toddler event, so it is suitable for children aged 2-5. However, children younger than this may enjoy the sensory elements and children older than this will also enjoy visiting the Centre and the exhibition.
Centre.

Is this event suitable for groups and schools?
No. As the day is planned around small children and parents, we do not encourage or take group bookings. Please see our EDUCATION pages to see other programmes that will be more suitable for you.

Can I use my Annual Pass?
Yes. This is not a Premium Event.

Would Small Space be suitable for a child with disabilities?
Yes. The event is aimed at providing a safe and educational space for all those looking to develop skills through play. We include many opportunities throughout the day, where children and parents can drop in and drop out at their leisure. We do not take large school or group bookings, so this is a special day for smaller children, or those who need a quieter and gentler pace to enjoy the Centre.

Is this day suitable for just adults?
No. The Centre is hosting this event for small children and their families. The galleries will be busy with children’s activities and you will not get the best experience. Please do look at our Space Lates events, or consider visiting on a sunny weekend date, when we tend to be a lot quieter (sunny summer holiday midweek dates are also good).

Can I drop my child off with you?
No. All activities are open for children to participate in, but they must be supervised by a parent, grandparent or guardian at all times.
