Record number of cheese makers at UK's largest cheese fair

Visitors to the Artisan Cheese Fair in Melton Mowbray this year will be able to enjoy a record number of cheeses as 50 local and national cheese producers have now signed up to showcase over 300 of the UK’s best artisan cheeses.

The UK’s largest dedicated cheese fair will return for its sixth year from 10am to 4pm on 30 April and 1 May 2015 at the Livestock Market, Scalford Road, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire LE13 1JY.

Last year, over 8,000 cheese-lovers visited the Artisan Cheese Fair and visitors to this year’s event will have the opportunity to taste and buy some of the UK’s rarest artisan cheeses including cow, goat and sheep milk cheeses.

Exhibitors will be coming from England, Ireland and Wales, ranging from very small producers relatively new to cheese making, through to family firms that have been making artisan cheese for generations. Exhibitors will include the 50th producer to sign up, Hamm Tun Fine Foods whose Cobblers Nibble is a multi award winning hard English cheese made from pasteurised cows’ milk from a Northamptonshire Fresian herd.

Gary Bradshaw from Hamm Tun Fine Foods said: “This will be our first year at the Artisan Cheese Fair. The event has a great reputation as being an excellent place to showcase products to real cheese-lovers. As a relatively new producer, we’ve just moved into larger premises and are confident that the Cheese Fair will be a springboard to further growth.”

Visitors can also learn about cheese in the daily programme of talks, demonstrations and tastings given by industry experts, as well as enjoying other local produce including pies, wine, cakes, cider, champagne and Melton Mowbray’s famous Pork Pies.

Matthew O’Callaghan organiser of the Artisan Cheese Fair added: “The record number of cheese makers who have booked so far shows the reputation of the Fair in the cheese world. The event is a must for anyone who loves cheese with some of the UK’s rarest cheeses on show to taste and buy.”

The Artisan Cheese Fair takes place on the first May Bank Holiday weekend. Entrance is priced at £3. For more information on the Artisan Cheese Fair 2016, visit
