Loughborough Building Society to sponsor first Loogabarooga Festival

Loughborough Building Society will be the main sponsor of this year’s Loogabarooga Festival, the first-ever festival of children’s illustrated literature, taking place in the town from 22-26 October 2015.

The theme of the Loogabarooga Festival is ‘incredible illustrations and brilliant books’. It will showcase new and existing illustrated literature for children through a series of workshops, events, readings and activities with appearances from some of the nation’s favourite children’s authors and illustrators.

The Festival is run by Charnwood Borough Council with support from partners including Arts Council England, Leicester Shire Promotions, Leicestershire County Council and Love Loughborough.

Throughout the Festival and beyond until January 2016, the Loughborough Building Society will be running a children’s illustration competition to design a house of the future, for the year 2167, which will be the Society’s 300th birthday.

Eileen Wheatley, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Loughborough Building Society commented: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the festival which is an exciting event, not just for the town and county but for all of the East Midlands. The theme of illustration resonates strongly in Loughborough and heritage is a big focus for us at this point in time as we are fast approaching our 150th year.”

Cllr Hilary Fryer, Cabinet Member for Leisure at Charnwood Borough Council, said: "I would like to thank Loughborough Building Society for helping us write the first chapter of what we hope will become the long and successful story of Loogabarooga.

"The festival will not only attract many people to the area but also give us a chance to celebrate Charnwood's association with illustrated literature. This will be something for all the family and I can't wait to see Loogabarooga come alive."

More details of the programme will be published on Facebook at www.facebook.com/loogabarooga, on Twitter @loogabarooga15 and on the website at www.loogabarooga.com
