Local MPs turn out for English Tourism Week

Leicestershire MPs turned out to help the local tourism industry celebrate this year’s English Tourism Week from 17-25 March 2018.

English Tourism Week is an annual celebration of English tourism and campaigns to raise the profile of the industry, as well as celebrating the value and quality of tourism in England. Local MPs including Nicky Morgan, David Tredinnick, Andrew Bridgen, Alberto Costa and Edward Argar attended a series of events organised across Leicestershire on Friday 23 March to support English Tourism Week and the contribution of local tourism businesses.

Hinckley & Bosworth MP, David Tredinnick attended a showcase event organised by the Bosworth Tourism Association. At the event, held at the Royal Arms Hotel in Sutton Cheney, two new resources were launched - a Visitor Guide for Hinckley & Bosworth and the Explore Bosworth map. He also met with representatives from local attractions such as Twycross Zoo, Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, Squirrel at Wellsborough craft centre, Enchanted Bell Tents and Mallory Meadows Lodges.

Nicky Morgan, MP for Loughborough launched the new Loughborough and Charnwood visitor guide at Chocolate Alchemy in Loughborough and also announced the plans for the 2018 Leicestershire Tourism and Hospitality Awards for local businesses.

Nicky Morgan, MP for Loughborough said: “Leicestershire is a wonderful county with so much to offer both residents and visitors. Our fabulous, central location means that around 80 per cent of the population can be in Leicestershire within two hours of leaving home, we really are the perfect spot for a weekend away.”

Andrew Bridgen, MP for North West Leicestershire visited Clockmaker's House B&B in Ashby-de-la-Zouch for a tour of this local accommodation provider, and to discuss the challenges and opportunities within the local tourism sector.

Andrew Bridgen, MP for North West Leicestershire said: “Tourism is an important and growing part of the local economy in North West Leicestershire and I was delighted to visit Clockmaker’s House B&B in Ashby-de-la-Zouch to celebrate English Tourism Week. The Clockmaker’s House B&B is also an example of a fantastic local business, whose staff work extremely hard in providing high standards for their guests."

Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire and Edward Argar, MP for Charnwood joined Blaby District Council, Leicestershire Promotions and other guests at the Leicester Marriott Hotel Marriott to officially launch a new tourism partnership in Blaby, which is supported by local businesses across the district. The partnership will develop a Tourism Plan that aims to increase local tourism, boost the economy and make information about attractions in the district more widely available.

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicestershire Promotions added: “We’re delighted that so many of our local MPs took the time on the designated Tourism Constituency Day to support the local industry and help us to celebrate English Tourism Week. We’re particularly proud to launch our new visitor guides, as well as announcing plans for this year’s prestigious Tourism and Hospitality Awards.”
