Edible Forest Festival hailed a success and 2018 dates announced

This year’s Edible Forest Festival, a feast of food and drink events showcasing local produce in Leicestershire, has been hailed as a success. The Festival took place at a number of iconic settings in Charnwood in September 2017 and many of the events including the Secret Gourmet, Family Forest Adventure, Foraging and Tea in the Tower sold out.

Dates have already been announced for the third Edible Forest Festival – from 14-16 September 2018. Festival favourites such as the Secret Gourmet and Tea in the Tower will return, along with more family events, other events in the popular Outwoods and the introduction of a new dining experience.

Events during Edible Forest 2017 included Tea in the Tower – a traditional, delicious tea, full of the finest local produce and served in the unique setting of the Old John Tower in the heart of Bradgate Park. There was also a rare opportunity to experience two of Leicestershire’s top chefs cooking a gourmet banquet with leading local chefs, Paul Leary and John Duffin.

The Edible Forest was developed and promoted by Leicestershire Promotions, with support from Charnwood Borough Council, The National Forest and Everards.

Chris Traill, strategic director for neighbourhoods and community wellbeing at Charnwood Borough Council, said: "We're delighted so many people loved the Edible Forest this year - it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase fabulous local produce and great venues.

"So let's not spoil a good thing, the Edible Forest will be back next year and we will be looking to build upon this year's success. Tell your friends family and neighbours, you can all experience even more of the wonderful local food and drink on offer around Charnwood."

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicestershire Promotions, added: “We were delighted that many of the events sold out for this year’s Festival and interest was again high. Feedback from visitors was very positive and we were proud to work alongside a great number of local partners, from suppliers and event organisers, to venues and locations, to make it such a success.”
