Distilled - Melton Mowbray's first-ever spirits festival next week

A festival celebrating locally produced spirits will take place in Melton Mowbray from 16-17 June 2018 in St Mary’s Church. Exhibitors at the first-ever Spirits Fest will include Leicester’s Burleighs Gin, Harborough’s Two Birds Spirits, Melton Mowbray’s Sloeberry Spirits and from further afield, Old Vodka, as well as other local and regional producers of alcoholic spirits and other food and drink.

The emphasis of the event will be to allow visitors to taste these products and to educate themselves more about spirits and similar products.

Two Birds Spirits from Market Harborough will be running a series of gin distilling workshops where visitors will learn how gin is made and see the distillation process for themselves. The workshops will involve sampling and are bookable in advance on the event website at www.spiritsfest.co.uk. Matthew O’Callaghan from the Melton Mowbray Food Partnership and organiser of the event said: “This is a great opportunity for people to get to know more about spirits, how they are made, where they come from and importantly what they taste like! The setting for the event will really make for a fantastic day or evening to be spent with friends.

“There are some truly incredible local and regional producers of alcoholic spirits and Melton’s first-ever festival dedicated to spirits will enable us to welcome visitors to sample, buy and generally celebrate the fantastic tastes available in Leicestershire and the wider East Midlands.”
