Major events and festivals

Viking event

Vibrant festivals, live gigs, contemporary theatre, and unusual rural events, Leicester and Leicestershire has lots to entertain you!

Leicester boasts a diverse range of entertainment. From live music and performances at De Montfort Hall to city festivals including the Leicester Caribbean Carnival. If you need some laughter in your life, visit the Leicester Comedy Festival held each February.

But it's not all about big festivals and performing art productions – visit The Musician for intimate performances from live bands, or as you are walking around the city centre look out for street performances. If you're a major film buff, watch in style at Leicester's Cinema de Lux or Phoenix

In the county you can experience quirky and traditional rural festivals and live music performances.  At the Timber Festival you can step into an incredible weekend of music, arts, ideas and wellbeing among the trees at Feanedock, near Ashby de la Zouch. Enjoy the many food festivals taking place all year round such as the Melton Mowbray Food Festival, Artisan Cheese Fair, ChocFest or PieFest. Outdoor ampitheatres, concerts in castles to the bizarre Hallaton Hare Pie Scramble & Bottle Kicking and our very own GlastonBudget – ideal if you missed those essential tickets to Glastonbury! The award-winning Loughborough Town Hall is the place to be if you enjoy live performances and panto's, or visit Conkers or Calke Abbey for live musical performances in magnificent surroundings (don't forget to take along a picnic full of tasty Leicestershire goodies!)
