Lecture - The hidden landscape of late medieval Leicestershire

Sat 12 Oct 2019

With lecturer Dr Katie Bridger

.

The hidden landscape of late medieval Leicestershire, c.1485-1547

.

After centuries of social, political, religious and economic change, the countryside of modern Leicestershire would be almost unrecognisable to the county’s medieval inhabitants. The people and places have changed, but we still have their stories and experiences in our national and local histories.

.

In 1485, Leicestershire saw the death of Richard III, the last king of England to die on the battlefield. But what else was happening in the county’s landscape at that time? Join me as we explore the archival evidence for the hidden world of late medieval Leicestershire, as told through the voices of the people who lived there.
