Our Commitment to the Environment and Our Local Community

Sustainable Practices
At Leicester Tourist Information Centre we are committed to operating in a sustainable way and we work towards lessening the impact of our operation to the environment.
To this end we have introduced measures which we have outlined below and are being monitored and reviewed on a regular basis and form part of our business planning.
We also work towards supporting the local community within which we operate. We do this in a variety of ways working together with local charities, educational establishments and supporting businesses and are committed in assisting the partners we work with to grow.
We always welcome new ideas on how to improve our impact both from team members and our customers.
Our Customer Satisfaction Surveys allow for regular visitor feedback in all areas of our operation while regular team meetings allow for new ideas to be introduced.
Sustainable Practices- Environment
- We recycle paper, cardboard and printer cartridges on a monthly basis
- We have introduced a maximum limit to brochure ordering to reduce the need of recycling unused copies. We currently stock brochures from a maximum of 20 destinations across England.
- We make our customers aware of the fact above and will request specific brochures on their behalf
- We are committed into using modern technology to our best advantage and have introduced the use of Digital Print, a software system which allows us to tailor make our reply to each enquiry and provide one piece of print rather than numerous leaflets. We also encourage visitors to use sustainable practices when contacting us with their enquiries.
- We use bio degradable carrier bags and encourage our customers to re use carrier bags they might already have.
- We work with local producers and suppliers minimising the impact on the environment due to transportation of goods
- We source and retail items from recycled materials. Examples include bookmarks from reconstituted car tyres and notepads from recycled polypropylene and paper
- We encourage our staff to use public transport in their commute for work purposes
- When public transport is not available we have a car sharing policy in operation
Sustainable Practices- Supporting the local community
- We will order goods for our retail operation from local producers and suppliers where possible. A list of local businesses we work with is available on request.
- We order our staff uniforms from a Leicestershire company supporting the local economy
- We have an agreement with ‘Creative Leicestershire', to promote and sell artefacts and goods locally made. Our products range from ladies handbags made from recycled fabrics to jewellery, cards and calendars all made by local artists/producers.
- Food items available for sale are all sourced from local producers and support our destination's food and drink offer.
- Where possible and to assist small independent businesses in our community, we will offer a discounted commission rate and will forward payment for goods when they are sold.
- We will donate our excess stock to local charities and will support local events either by donating stock or by agreeing to host special events in our premises. Charities we work with include Age Concern, The Lord Mayor's Appeal and Spark Children's Festival
- We very often provide and work experience placements to students from local colleges and are committed to continue to do so.
