VisitEngland statement re DCMS report

03/05/2012

In response to the publication of a new report on deregulating the tourism industry, VisitEngland's Chief Executive James Berresford said:

Recommendations from an independent panel for widespread deregulation of the tourism and hospitality industries were published today.  The report, Smart Regulation and Economic Growth  - Seizing the Tourism Opportunity outlines a number of proposals to amend or in some cases cut regulations.

This is an excellent report which if followed through will help to free the hospitality and food and drink businesses from overly burdensome rules.

Of course, some regulation is necessary but tourism and hospitality operators have been stifled by a range of regulations that have been allowed to build up over the years, hampering their ability to grow or to provide decent returns on investment.

This new environment will certainly help to support the hundreds of thousands of SMEs operating in the tourism industry, and will enable them to get on with running their business."
