Promoting Leicester to over 112 million rail users by 2014
03/05/2012
Leicester is the only station in the country to have these double-sided display panels available and they have been sponsored until 2014 by Curve theatre, Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival, De Montfort University, Leicester Shire Promotions and the University of Leicester. Leicester City Council will also be responsible for a sign to promote the city.
The signs replace the existing messages, co-ordinated with sponsors by Leicester Shire Promotions in 2008. They will be located between the tracks, facing platforms 2 and 3, and will showcase Leicester's cultural, tourism and educational offers to around 400,000 people using the station platform each month as well as 2,740,000 passing through the station on trains.
City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said: "The volume of people visiting and passing through Leicester station makes it one of the most high profile and visible sites available for promoting what the city has to offer. It is a great opportunity to highlight some of Leicester's key cultural, educational and tourism strengths to a huge audience."
Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions commented: "Thanks to Network Rail, the signs at Leicester station offer us a unique opportunity to boost city pride. With the millions of possible viewings by rail users each month, the sponsors are helping to project a strong message to promote the city brand to potential visitors."
