Food fresh from The National Forest

03/05/2012

The summer issue of the National Forest Food Guide is hot off the press crammed full of scrumptious goodies and new places to try!

A number of new farm shops are springing up in and around the area including Cooks Farm Shop in Newtown Linford and Betty's Farm Shop in Willington. Curborough Hall, Elmhurst Farm and Packington Moor Farm Shops are new additions to our rich stock of local produce suppliers based nearby in Staffordshire.

The National Forest Food Guide lists where to buy great local food, with details of producers and stockists of everything from meat to mushrooms, beer to bread and cakes to cheese. It is compiled by local food expert Barry Smith: "It is wonderful to see the number of new farm shops growing in the area. They are catering for the increased demand as consumers are ever-more aware of the benefits of local food.

"Over the last few years the Guide has expanded from just a couple of pages to now over a dozen which is testament to the real variety of fantastic produce that we have here in The National Forest.

"I decided to collate the Guide when I found how difficult it was to find out about all the very good produce I knew was out there! The list makes it easier for both residents and visitors to the area to find and enjoy the wonderful selection of food and drink that we have here.

"Readers are invited to feedback comments and add their suggestions for stockists or produce for the next edition of the Guide."

Penny Wilkinson, Tourism & Promotions Officer for the National Forest Company said: "This simple but brilliant Guide really shows the quantity, quality and increasing interest in buying local."
