Bee a-mazed - what's all the fuss about at Wistow Maze?

Leicestershire's famous Wistow Maze opens on Saturday 16th July. Following a wildlife theme this year, the maze has been designed in the shape of a giant honey bee, complete with a hive. Hours of fun and entertainment for children and adults alike lie in store when exploring the giant maze created out of 8 acres of living maize crop.

"The number of bumble bees has declined by around 70% since the 1970s, and honey bee numbers have fallen by 15% over the past two years according to official UK Government figures. Our 2011 Honey Bee Maze is designed to raise awareness of the plight of our bee populations and their importance to the environment, as well as providing a fun and educational day out for the whole family."

"However it is not just our bee populations that need our help," explains Diana Brooks, owner of the Wistow Maze. "Many other species are also under threat and our quiz trail this year will highlight other wildlife such as the dormouse, red squirrel and otter, with clues to be found amongst the 3 miles of intricate pathways cut into the maize."

Winner of Leicestershire's ‘Best Visitor Attraction', the Wistow Maze attracts about 15,000 visitors on an annual basis. Situated just south of Leicester, the maze also incorporates high level bridges and viewing towers giving visitors stunning 3D panoramic views of the complex maze and beautiful surrounding countryside.

The Wistow Maze is a great family day out. Having experienced the ‘real thing', visitors can then take part in a variety of mini mazes, games and table top activities in the Activity Funyard. There is also a space hopper track, hoopla and football shooting game, with light refreshments available.
Opposite is the Wistow Rural Centre with a café/bistro, garden centre, model village, farm shop, aquatic centre and many shops selling furniture, gifts, jewellery and much more.

Saturday 16th July - Sunday 4th Sept (then weekends only until Sunday 25th Sept).
