Breaking records for short break bookings

Stay Play Explore

A record number of people have booked during January 2016 to visit Leicester and Leicestershire for a short break. Visitors booking on the Stay Play Explore short break offers in Leicester and Leicestershire more than doubled in January 2016 to 465, compared to the same period last year when 231 bookings were recorded.

10:1 Social Return on Investment achieved on public sector funding


Independent research commissioned by the tourism body for Leicester and Leicestershire, Leicester Shire Promotions has shown that the company’s activities have achieved an estimated social return on investment of £9.83 for each £1 of public sector funding invested.

Awards in VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence

Local tourism businesses, venues and experiences competed for national awards at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2016 last night at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool. Attenborough Arts Centre, The Dandelion Hideaway and King Richard III Partnership represented Leicester and Leicestershire and all won awards amongst the country’s elite tourism offers.

Another national conference coming to Leicester

The Tourism Management Institute (TMI) has selected Leicester as the host city for its next Hot Topic conference entitled ‘Creating a Bookable Destination’ on 24 May 2016. This conference is one of the highest profile events in the tourism industry calendar and is expected to attract 120 TMI members who promote and develop destinations across the UK, Europe and worldwide.
