Grantham Canal

Woolsthorpe Landing Stage,
NG32 1NY

The Grantham Canal meanders gently for 33 miles through the beautiful Vale of Belvoir. With views of medieval pastures, peaceful woodlands, ancient church spires and Belvoir Castle from the canal towpath, this is the perfect place to enjoy a waterside walk or cycle ride.

The canal was completed in 1797 at the height of 'canal mania'. It was designed by the famous engineer William Jessop, following the twisting contours of the landscape rather than a shorter straight line, to save the costly expense of boring tunnels.

More information on cycling, walking, canoeing and boat trips along this peaceful waterway is available on the Grantham Canal Society's website.
