Leicester City Council

Leicester's efforts to brighten up the city amid extensive construction was recognised with a silver gilt award in the 2007 East Midlands in Bloom awards.
The city won the award in the Urban Regeneration category of the competition, run by the Royal Horticultural Society. Leicester City Council led the work on the city’s entry, which included the planting of thousands of hanging baskets and planters, cleaning of street furniture and landscaping.
Judges said they were impressed with the quality and level of work and the involvement of local businesses including Maiyango restaurant and Slater St. School, whose pupils made hanging baskets for their playground and the city centre.
