CURRENLTY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC DUE TO BUILDING WORK BEING CARRIED OUT CLOSE TO THE BUILDING. Although Leicester Castle does not look like a 'traditional' castle; it was Leicester's first castle and was built around 1070 either by William the Conqueror or by Hugh de Grandsmesnil, the first Norman lord or castellan of Leicester.
