Just choose a theme and follow the trail around the villages - don't forget to allow time for a pub lunch and to look for other historical sites such as village lock-ups and round houses.

You will need access to a car, as many of the villages aren't on a regular bus service route.   We've given brief guidelines to travel from one destination to another but you will need to use a map to plan your route in detail.  At each destination there are lots of opportunities to explore more by foot or by cycle.  Look out for the village walking tours that are available too.

This is not an exhaustive list of sites and ideas for trails, as our area is rich with evidence of industrial heritage.  Visitors should be aware that some buildings featured here are privately owned and can only be viewed from the roadside.
