10am-4pm, Sunday 9 March 2008, National Space Centre, Leicester
A major free showcase event for local residents and day visitors is being held at the National Space Centre in Leicester between 10am - 4pm on 9 March 2008. At the event, people will be able to discover many of the tourism highlights that Leicester and Leicestershire have to offer, helping them to plan their days out in the city and county.
At the event, over 15 of the best local tourist attractions including Belvoir Castle, Conkers, East Midlands Food Festival, The National Forest and the National Space Centre will be promoting their own events, and offering discounts, demonstrations and competitions. Discounted tickets for the National Space Centre (reduced to £5 per ticket from £12 for a standard adult single visit) will also be available prior to the event from the Tourist Information Centre in Town Hall Square.
Visitors on the day will also be able to enter a competition to win a Stay Play Explore ticket from the Leicester Shire Promotions stand, entitling them to take their family (two adults and up to two children, aged 4-14 years old) to three of the five leading family fun visitor attractions in Leicestershire - National Space Centre, Conkers Twycross Zoo, Twinlakes and Snibston - at savings of up to 46 per cent on normal admission prices.
Complimentary copies of the new Great Days Out Guide to Leicestershire 2008 will be available to take away at the event. Copies of the new guide can also be picked up from the Leicester Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in Town Hall Square and TICs around the county. It can also be ordered online from http://www.goleicestershire.com/
Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions said: "With new attractions and developments this year including the opening of the new CURVE theatre, the Highcross Leicester shopping centre and the visitor centre at Bosworth Battlefield, Leicester and Leicestershire have so much to offer visitors. This event will showcase many of the highlights that people can see when they stay closer to home and will prove invaluable in helping people to plan their great days out here."
Chas Bishop, Chief Executive at the National Space Centre added: "The National Space Centre is proud to be supporting this event. It is important that people see the amazing array of world-class attractions that Leicestershire has to offer, not only national and international tourists, but also people right here on our doorstep. This year is going to be even more exciting, as we will start seeing the regeneration of the city and what it is bringing to this already vibrant community."
