Outdoors

From the rugged crags and wooded gorges of Charnwood Forest to the beautiful open uplands of High Leicestershire, this is the perfect county for relaxing and getting back to nature.

Walking is a great way to experience the varied landscape of Leicestershire, with its well signposted footpaths and quiet country lanes. Head for the flourishing National Forest for miles of nature trails, or discover some of England’s prettiest villages on the Leicestershire Round - a 100-mile circular walk around the entire county. Leicestershire’s many country parks also offer inspiring opportunities for walking.

Cyclists and horse riders are well catered for in Leicestershire, as both are popular local pursuits. Information on bridleways and cycleways can be obtained from tourist information. Alternatively, why not explore the rural landscape by narrowboat? Leicestershire has an excellent network of waterways, with several places to hire boats or enjoy organised trips. More water-based activities and cycling can be enjoyed at nearby Rutland Water.
