Visit the country park and see the unique Environment Centre
At Oadby take a stroll around the fascinating University of Leicester Botanical Gardens; 16 acres of gardens and greenhouses featuring a herb garden, woodland, tropical plants and several national collections. Nearby, you can also enjoy horse racing at Leicester Racecourse, which has regular meets throughout the year.
Oadby is also home to Brocks Hill Country Park, which features a completely self-sufficient Environment Centre. The building demonstrates wind and solar power, rainwater recycling and composting. It is set in 67 acres of newly planted parkland, with woodland, meadows, an orchard, an arboretum, a play area and a human sundial.
At neighbouring Wigston, discover the Framework Knitters Museum, a legacy of Leicestershire’s textile industry. Set in a former knitting workshop the museum has original knitting machines and offers you the chance to have a go at knitting yourself.
