New food & drink guide for Melton Mowbray
Building on the success of the area’s Gourmet short break campaign, Melton Promotions have developed a guide to give visitors a taste of what Melton has to offer with some great tips on the best places to experience the finest local produce.
If you love gourmet food then the Gourmet short break is the perfect break. From cheese tasting and pie making to afternoon tea and a brewery tour, there's plenty to tantalise your taste buds on this exclusive short break specifically developed for Melton Mowbray, Rural Capital of Food.
The short break offers mouth-watering cuisine and fabulous local produce as well as bed and breakfast for just £139 per couple – which is an amazing offer. Visitors can either stay at the Bouverie Lodge B&B, a working farm house where they have a wonderful heard of American bison and red deer, or Scalford Hall Hotel, a beautiful country house hotel which balances its heritage with comfort and modern living.
The campaign offers each couple to choose three out of five amazing foodie experiences which includes Cream Tea at Scalford Hall; a tasting session of famed and local Leicestershire cheese and £16.50 per couple to spend on cheese from the Melton Cheeseboard; a brewery tour and tastings of a selection of the beers made at Belvoir Brewery, as well as lunch for 2 adults made with local produce and ingredients by their award winning chef; watch a personal demonstration of ‘hand raising’ a pork pie and enjoy samples of the pies and Melton Hunt Cake plus £16.50 per couple to spend in the shop; and finally experience a generous lunch platter for 2 adults at the acclaimed Red Lion Inn which also includes a complimentary free drink.
The guide expands on the attractions available on the Gourmet break and offers visitors the chance to explore a wealth of great foodie and gourmet experiences. The Guide has identified the best of the best in the area with a Gourmet Afternoon Tea Trail, Quality Fine Dining restaurants along with some Delightful Deli’s and Fabulous Farm Shops.
There is information of the best places to experience The Great British Pie, including pie tours at Brockleby’s and Make & Bake your own Pork Pie (Evening Experience) at Dickinson & Morris. Champion Cheeses can be tasted and bought at the Melton Cheeseboard, Cropwell Bishop Creamery Shop and Colston Bassett Dairy and the unique new Gas Dog Cask Ale & Cider House can be found in Melton Town Centre.
Stephen Hallam, Chair of Melton Promotions said: “The Guide has been designed to promote the unique foodie experiences on offer in and around our area focussing on quality and local produce. We have a truly unique offer ….. did you know, for example, that at Eye Kettleby Lakes you can indulge in a Gentleman’s Tea made up of mini burgers, scotch eggs & a pint ? We even have eco-friendly tea tasting workshops at Old Brickyard Tea Garden … where else would you get such diversity in Food & Drink experiences.”
Ruth Wakeling, Bouverie Lodge B&B said: “The Gourmet Short Break has been a great success and visitors really enjoy the experiences on offer. This guide will enhance their stay with an array of additional attractions to visit and foods to taste. Leicestershire Promotions have been instrumental in helping Melton develop this campaign and without their expertise we would never have been able to operate such a high quality successful campaign.”
Lisa Brown, Tourism Development Officer said: “We launched the guide at the Artisan Cheese Fair and were amazed at the interest it generated from visitors who had travelled from all over the country. The town hosts some of the major Food & Drink events in the UK and this guide just shows why Melton is The Rural Capital of Food & Drink.”
The New Guide is available in most of the establishments listed in the guide, including Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, the Melton Cheeseboard and Belvoir Brewery but can also be picked up from Melton Borough Council Parkside reception. The Guide can be downloaded at www.melton.gov.uk.
