Local businesses shortlisted for national tourism awards

The Dandelion Hideaway, The Exchange, Hotel Maiyango and National Space Centre shortlisted for national tourism awards.

Four tourism businesses from Leicester and Leicestershire have been announced as finalists in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015. The Awards celebrate the best of English tourism and will be held on Monday 11 May 2015 at the Sage Gateshead.

The Leicester and Leicestershire finalists are nominated in the following categories:

• The Dandelion Hideaway, Market Bosworth - Self Catering Holiday Provider of the Year

• National Space Centre, Leicester - Business Tourism Award

• Hotel Maiyango, Leicester - Taste of England Award

• The Exchange, Leicester - Tourism Pub of the Year

The VisitEngland Awards attracted a total of 345 applications. All finalists are guaranteed to receive a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended Award.

James Berresford, Chief Executive of VisitEngland said: “It’s been another successful year for our Excellence Awards as we’ve received hundreds of applications of an extremely high standard. That’s why all the finalists should be incredibly proud that they’ve been short-listed against such tough competition. I’d like to congratulate all the finalists who now represent the top five in their category in England and wish them all the very best of luck on Awards night at the Sage Centre in Gateshead - a spectacular venue to celebrate the industry’s best.”

All of the local finalists have been successfully re-judged after winning Gold in their respective categories in the Leicester and Leicestershire Excellence in Tourism Awards last year, hosted by Leicester Shire Promotions.

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions added: “These four businesses have displayed unique strengths in their respective categories. We are delighted that they’ve made the national finals and their success shows the outstanding quality of the tourism industry in the city and county.”
