Leicester Shire Promotions has announced the latest major conference to be hosted in the city. The four-day international Conference on Communication and Environment (COCE) will be held in Leicester from 29 June to 2 July 2017.

The 14th biennial COCE event is run by the International Environmental Communication Association (IECA), will be hosted by the School of Media, Communication and Sociology at the University of Leicester, and will attract up to 350 UK and international delegates. Leicester Shire Promotions has estimated that this event will bring around £200,000 to the local economy.

COCE 2017 will include discussions about how environmental communication researchers and practitioners can help to address the key challenges facing the environment and environmental communication.

Leicester Shire Promotions will also support COCE 2017 by providing a bespoke microsite where participants of the conference can book hotel accommodation with exclusive conference rates, access to train travel discounts with East Midlands Trains, booking for social tours and access to visitor information to Leicester and Leicestershire.

Anders Hansen, Conference chair, School of Media, Communication and Sociology: "We are honoured to have been chosen to host the prestigious 2017 Conference on Communication and Environment, which brings together leading international environmental communication scholars and practitioners from around the world. We are delighted to have the support of Leicester Shire Promotions, which will be key to making this a successful event."

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions added: “We continue to work closely with venue partners such as the University of Leicester to attract national and international conferences and events to the city and county. COCE 2017 will bring a focus on promoting green spaces, sustainability and recycling, and we look forward to working with the IECA and the University of Leicester to successfully support the conference.”
