Commemorative medal marks King Richard’s return
The medal features the iconic ‘with dignity and honour’ crown marque as well as an engraving of King Richard III's tomb in Leicester Cathedral.
It comes in a presentation CD folder which also features images from the reinterment week, and the poem ‘Richard’ by Carol Ann Duffy, which was read at the ceremony by actor and distant relative of the king, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Only 2,500 of them are being produced initially by the Royal Mint.
They will be available for sale, priced £19.99, from the King Richard III Visitor Centre, St Martin's House and the Visit Leicester Information Centre from the end of July.
They will also be available to order online at: www.goleicestershire.com/shop/
A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Leicester Cathedral Charitable Trust which supports the creation and maintenance of the king’s grave.
Leicester City Mayor Peter Soulsby said: “This is a very fitting way of commemorating such a historically significant event, and one in which so many Leicester people took part as spectators, volunteers and visitors to the grave itself.”
