CONFERENCE SUCCESSES WORTH OVER £1 MILLION TO LEICESTER AND LEICESTERSHIRE IN 2016

Leicester Shire Promotions has announced that its event bidding campaign has helped to secure a number of national and international conferences and events to be held in Leicester and Leicestershire in 2016, contributing an estimated extra £1.156 million * to the local economy.

This figure is based on a number of major events booked at various venues in the city and county next year. These were secured by the Leicester and Leicestershire Conference Bureau, working in partnership with, and supporting local partners and venues.

The conferences include the Congress of Polish Student Societies in the UK, Chartered Institute for Archaeology, Cycle City Active City, Street Choir Festival and the International Association of Media and Communication Research. The total number of delegates for these events is around 3,500.

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions said: “Our event bidding approach is based on a targeted strategy of identifying events with a fit and connection with the destination. We then work with a network of venue and accommodation partners to submit a comprehensive and focused bid for each event.

“This strategy is clearly working effectively, judging by the economic impact of the events successfully secured so far and currently, we’re bidding to host other national and international conferences as far ahead as 2019. Once the impact of this direct spend ripples through the local economy, the full economic impact will be even greater,” continued Martin.
