Capture your Leicestershire in 'My Leicestershire' contest
29/03/2011
Budding photographers and travel reviewers are being challenged to capture the best of Leicester & Leicestershire on camera, video and good old fashioned pen & paper, in a new competition.
The Leicester & Leicestershire tourism body, Leicester Shire Promotions, is asking locals to take part in its ‘My Leicestershire' competition, which is being run in conjunction with the launch of the brand new visitor website for Leicester & Leicestershire at www.goleicestershire.com.
Throughout the summer people are being asked to share their passion and pride of the city & country by taking photographs, short video clips and writing reviews of places in Leicestershire that are closest to their hearts. From towering and iconic landmarks like Curve theatre and Old John Folly, to the roaring hollers of traders at Leicester's bustling Leicester market, entries can be of any local spot, as long as they portray what makes those spots so special.
All entries should be sent to Facebook@goLeicestershire.com by 2 September 2010. Leicester Shire Promotions will display entries on a specially-created Facebook page, which can be accessed through www.goleicestershire.com/myleicestershire-competition, and will ask Facebookers to vote for their favourite by clicking the ‘like' button. The entry with the most ‘likes' will be the recipient of a state-of-the-art HD Flip Video Camcorder, and will also be on display for all to see on www.goleicestershire.com , along with other suitable entries.
Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions, commented: "One of my favourite aspects of the new goleicestershire.com visitor website is the opportunity it gives to people who know Leicester and Leicestershire well to add reviews of places they've visited. We've found from our research that authentic reviews and recommendations of this kind are incredibly influential to those looking to plan a day out or short break. The functionality is the inspiration of this new competition, which asks those in the best possible position what they like most about our destination, Leicestershire residents themselves".
With evolving technology and changes in the way people use the internet, the all-new www.goleicestershire.com offers visitors a more interactive destination experience with scrolling image galleries, the ability to receive real-time tourist information, easier click-to-book functionality, links to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and Tripadvisor, as well as the ‘My Leicestershire' recommendations feature.
