'A King, a Car Park and a Cathedral’

The remarkable discovery of the remains of King Richard III under a car park in the centre of Leicester captivated the nation. In this three-day itinerary we discover the real story with visits to the King Richard III Visitor Centre and Leicester Cathedral, and step back in time to 1485 at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre. We take a walking tour of the historic centre of Leicester and find out the link between the king and space exploration with afternoon tea under a rocket at the fascinating National Space Centre.

Day 1
Travel to Leicestershire

Enjoy a relaxing journey to Leicestershire. In the afternoon visit the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre for a tour and afternoon tea.

Day 2
Leicester walking tour, King Richard III Visitor Centre, Leicester Cathedral, National Space Centre

This morning we meet our Blue Badge Tourist Guide for a 90-minute walking tour of Leicester’s historic city centre. We start at Leicester Cathedral where King Richard III is interred. We visit the medieval Guildhall and Leicester Castle before visiting the King Richard III Visitor Centre where the remarkable story of the search for the king is told. The centre is built over the actual location in the council car park where the remains were found. There’s free time for you to explore the city centre and have lunch. Visit the modern Highcross shopping centre, see the famous Clock Tower and wander through Leicester’s famous covered market.

In the afternoon we take a tour of Leicester’s Curve theatre, a spectacular and award-winning theatre within a theatre, with no traditional backstage area.

We rejoin our coach to travel the short distance to the National Space Centre where we take a tour of the six interactive galleries, the UK’s largest planetarium, and a unique 3D Simulator Experience. For our final experience of the day we take afternoon tea under the 42m-high Rocket Tower. We return to our hotel with time to relax before dinner.

Day 3
Return home


We leave Leicester and start our journey home. Depending on the route why not include a visit to Foxton Locks, Rockingham Castle, Calke Abbey (NT), 1620s House and Garden or the National Memorial Arboretum.

For groups of 25 or more, this tour is available for £149 per person sharing a double or twin room. The price includes two nights’ dinner, bed and breakfast, entrance and tour of Bosworth Battlefield Visitor Centre, a 90-minute walking tour of Leicester with a Blue Badge Tourist Guide including entrance to Leicester Cathedral and the Guildhall, entrance to King Richard III Visitor Centre, tour of Curve Theatre (subject to performances), and entrance to the National Space Centre including tour and cream tea. Free place with a minimum 25 paying passengers. Coach hire is not included. Prices for smaller groups are available on request.
