The term 'vegan'

Donald Watson of Leicester came up with the term 'vegan' when he established the Vegan Society in 1944.

Shake your own cocktail ...

Have a go at shaking a cocktail made with vegan ingredients at 33 Cank Street.

Chocolate heaven ...

Only vegan ingredients are used at the chocolate demonstration at Cocoa Amore.

Book a short break ...

Especially for vegans and vegetarians, book our city break for two people for just £149.

Leicester is a hot-bed of over 60 vegetarian restaurants, cafes and shops. Visit the city and enjoy shaking a cocktail at 33 Cank Street, purchase chocolates made with vegan ingredients from Cocoa Amore or sit and watch the world go by while you enjoy lunch at one of the many vegetarian cafes.

Due to the large Hindi, Sikh and Jain populations of Leicester, many of the restaurants are meat, dairy and fish free, and all have vegan options. There are also many vegan and vegetarian-friendly places to eat and drink across the city and county too, you'll find a selection of these listed on this site.  Why not try a Leicester speciality, an authentic curry at Shivalli or Peking Restaurant?

See our new short break especially for vegans and vegetarians with a choice of food and drink experiences in the city including overnight accommodation for two people, all for £149 per couple.

Amit Gokani writes in the Leicester Mercury...

"I am amazed to see the diversity in the vegetarian food being offered in the city centre and how many non-vegetarian restaurants that now have a separate vegan menu. They exist in all corners of the city – in the centre, out to Melton Road, East Park Road or Uppingham Road and out to Market Harborough and the county."
