Explore Loughborough & Charnwood

Explore the area of Loughborough and Charnwood where you can experience the buzz of a university town mixed with the tranquility of the great outdoors.

Loughborough is the home of the Great Central Railway, Britain's only double track steam line, which runs regular trips to Leicester at weekends and throughout the summer. This university town is also a centre for the manufacturing of bells - find out more at Taylor's Bellfoundry. Enjoy catching up with friends at one of the chic bars, traditional pubs or contemporary restaurants.

Why not enjoy a taste of the great outdoors in the picturesque area of Charnwood Forest. Walking, cycling or horse riding provide a more relaxed pace in which to explore this area.

Charnwood Forest has a wealth of country parks providing wonderful walks and views. Bradgate Country Park is one of the most popular. Discover the picturesque ruins of Bradgate House, birthplace of Lady Jane Grey who was Queen of England in 1554 for just nine days.

Other beauty spots include Beacon Hill, the Outwoods, Billa Barra and Altar Stones - all unusual hills on the west side of Charnwood. In the east, take to the water and explore Soar Valley on the River Soar. Hire a narrowboat from Sileby Mill and explore Leicestershire's countryside from the water. Enjoy life on the farm at Broombriggs, where you can experience a working farm, with countryside walkways.
