Ashby de la Zouch and Coalville lie at the heart of The National Forest, an area that embraces ancient buildings, fascinating visitor attractions and miles of hidden nature trails. There are also precious reminders of the industrial revolution, lovingly preserved and proudly displayed.

You can hire a bike from Hicks Lodge and cycle through The National Forest and stop at Conkers, the award-winning family visitor attraction. Rain or shine, there's plenty to do, with indoor and outdoor activities providing fun for all ages.

Nearby, you can take a trip on the Ashby Canal to visit the 19th century blast furnace at Moira Furnace, or visit Coalville, where a former colliery has been transformed into the fascinating Snibston a celebration of Leicestershire's industrial past. The beautifully restored Donington-le-Heath Manor House is also in this area, and holds regular special events.
