Major events and festivals

Viking event

Vibrant festivals, live gigs, contemporary theatre, and unusual rural events, Leicester and Leicestershire has lots to entertain you!

Leicester boasts a diverse range of entertainment. From live music and performances at De Montfort Hall to city festivals such as the Handmade Festival, Leicester Caribbean Carnival and Leicester Belgrave Mela. If you need some laughter in your life, visit the Leicester Comedy Festival held each February.

But it's not all about big festivals and performing art productions – visit The Musician for intimate performances from live bands, or as you are walking around the city centre look out for street performances. If you're a major film buff, watch in style at Leicester's Cinema de Lux or Phoenix

In the county you can experience quirky and traditional rural festivals and live music performances. Enjoy the many food festivals taking place all year round such as the Melton Mowbray Food Festival, Artisan Cheese Fair, ChocFest or UK PieFest. Outdoor ampitheatres, concerts in castles to the bizarre Hallaton Hare Pie Scramble & Bottle Kicking and our very own GlastonBudget – ideal if you missed those essential tickets to Glastonbury! Loughborough Town Hall is the place to be if you enjoy live performances and panto's, or visit Conkers or Calke Abbey for live musical performances in magnificent surroundings (don't forget to take along a picnic full of tasty Leicestershire goodies!)
