Major events and festivals

Viking event
Vibrant festivals, live gigs, contemporary theatre, and unusual rural events, Leicester and Leicestershire has lots to entertain you!

Leicester boasts a diverse range of entertainment. From live music and performances at De Montfort Hall to city festivals such as the Caribbean Carnival, Leicester Belgrave Mela and the Ride Leicester Festival. If you need some laughter in your life then visit the Leicester Comedy Festival held each February.

But it's not all about big festivals and performing arts productions, visit The Musician for intimate performances from live bands or, as you are walking around the city centre, look out for street performances. If you're a film buff, watch in style at Leicester's Cinema de Lux or Phoenix.

In the county you can experience quirky and traditional rural festivals and live music performances. Enjoy food festivals - such as the Melton Mowbray Food Festival, Artisan Cheese Festival or the Great Food and Drink Festival, outdoor amphitheatres, concerts in castles to the bizarre Hallaton Bottle Kicking Contest and our very own GlastonBudget – ideal if you missed those essential tickets to Glastonbury! Loughborough Town Hall is the place to be if you enjoy live performances and panto's or visit Conkers or Calke Abbey for live musical performances in magnificent surroundings (and take along a picnic full of tasty Leicestershire goodies).
