Trails around Charnwood

Charnwood has a varied landscape which includes a wide range of heritage sites and interesting places to visit.  Use one of our trail guides to help you make the most of your visit to our area.

The River Soar flows through the area and offers lots of opportunities for visitors to enjoy walking and cycling while watching boats travelling through the area and the wildlife that waterways attracts. Our guide will give you ideas of where to visit to get the most from the river and even where you could hire a boat to explore Charnwood from the water.

Why not catch a train from one of the stations on the Great Central Railway and hop on and off at each station to see attractions and places to eat and drink that are within walking distance from the railway which runs from Loughborough to Leicester?

One of the leading people in the Arts and Craft movement, Ernest Gimson, built a number of houses and buildings in Leicestershire and his own family summer home is now in the ownership of The National Trust.  Stoneywell Cottage, located in Charnwood Forest can be visited, on a strict 'book in advance' system through the Trust's website.  See more information about places to visit that were inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement.
