Rope walk

North West Leicestershire is at the heart of The National Forest and home to East Midlands Airport with easy links to the major road network.

The National Forest area covers 200 square miles across the counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Over eight million trees have already been planted, more than trebling woodland cover, creating new habitats for wildlife and a beautiful landscape for everyone to enjoy.

No multi-purpose forest on this scale has been created in the UK for one thousand years. The National Forest provides environmental, social and economic benefits, including landscape enhancement, creation of new wildlife habitats and major new access and leisure opportunities. The Woodland Trust flagship Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Wood near Ravenstone, is planted with 200,000 trees.

There's lots to see and do in the area - lots of heritage to explore including Ashby de la Zouch Castle, great places to eat, fun activities for the family at Conkers Discovery Centre and a spa when you need to relax. There's so much you'll need to book a short break.

Exciting events and festivals take place throughout the year.  Visit the annual Canal Festival at Moira and see boats, traditional crafts and fun for all the family.  The Food Gusto events in Ashby are a great time to try new foods and to take home locally produced goodies.

Enjoy afternoon tea at one of the many great tearooms in the area.  Visitors to Lakeside Tearooms at Moira and have lunch while watching fishing being caught at the lake, away from the hustle and bustle of the town, you can sit and relax at one of several tearooms in Ashby itself and browse the produce available at the farm shop at Cattows tearooms.
